ESCAP stands for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for
Asia and the Pacific. It is one of the five regional commissions of the
United Nations and is based in Bangkok, Thailand. ESCAP's mandate is to
promote economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific region,
which includes 53 member countries and territories. ESCAP provides a
forum for its members to discuss and address regional development
challenges, and it supports member countries in implementing the 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development. ESCAP also conducts research,
provides technical assistance, and disseminates information on a range
of topics related to sustainable development, including trade, energy,
transport, and social development.
